Integrating Systems, Stand By...

“I’ve been busy” is an understatement, the last 3 months I have been all over the Southwest area at many different schools, installing, configuring, integrating.

Overall things have been going well for me, no work drama, no social drama, my financial situation is stable, family has been good too.
It’s almost boring, not quite, but almost.

The only real complaint I guess I have is that my love life is deader than Bill Clinton’s presidential prospects.

I’m flying to Kalgoorlie next week to do some work up there, I’ll be gone the entire week, not sure how things are gonna go with that job, the support from the school’s staff is somewhat lacking right now, but that may improve when I arrive.

I’m also on a weekly support contract with a school near Cockburn, I use the server room as my office, it’s comfortable here with the air-conditioning and a little peace and quiet to get things done.

Once again, I’m doing all right.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho...

Back to Winthrop I go!

I’m done with my 6 months at Helena college as a technician, now it’s on to the training and project work as a SYSTEMS INTEGRATION CONSULTANT.
I have no real idea what that actually means, but when people ask me what that is I tell them that I consult, on the integration of systems.

The next 3 or so months are going to be busy too, because it is the end of the school year, the orders for new laptops and servers and technical expertise pour in, in preparation for the coming school year.

Moving on from work, I recently acquired a radar detector for my car, I know that people will assume I will use it to speed, but it’s not so much that I willingly speed as it is that I drive a long way to and from work every day, as such I tend to slip and go over the limit during the hours of monotony that I endure, mainly because I cannot always use the cruise control, especially when I am in heavy traffic or bad weather. This way at least I can avoid the expensive outlay of my hard earned money and losing my license, which would leave me with no way of working anyway.

The other thing I have been doing is buying and modifying nerf guns, and now I am joined by some friends that expressed some interest in this hobby also.
On sunday I purchased some new tools and equipment to replace my rusty, old donor ones I pinched from my father, and a portable air compressor to power my air powered nerf guns.

All in all, I’m doing all right.

Welp, that's sorted

In case you hadn’t already heard, I got my new car a few weeks ago. I bought a 2011 model KIA Cerato...
Before you bag out KIA, the korean manufacturers have really raised the bar in build quality as of recent years, in fact so much that they are competing with the current kings of the automobile industry, Japan.

It’s got a 2.0 litre DOHC engine, with some version of V-TEC, a VERY well constructed interior that won’t creak or vibrate, integrated bluetooth and line-in in the sound system, which also is of decent quality and most importantly, cruise control.

The first week or so was not so comfortable for me, my back decided that it did not initially like the seats and expressed its discontent through crippling pain, the rebellion was put down with the application of Neurofen and a hot-pack.

Another Month...

Another month has passed? Crap, I need to post more often.

I’m well on my way to saving for a new car, my little nissan pulsar is going fine but I’m currently doing 1000km+ every week, so a breakdown is inevitable at this rate. Another few months or so and I’m going to be able to afford a nice newer car, hmmm, maybe I should get a SkyLine >Happy

Classic Macs

Something I never really covered in my projects section, I own a few 68K Macintoshes that I like to fiddle with for fun.

I currently possess 6 of these computers:
  • A Macintosh SE, currently non-functional due to a logic board issue which is replacement pending.
  • Two Macintosh Classics, one has a case that was smashed/repaired and a broken analog board, the other is in good condition.
  • An LCIII
  • An LC475, which I desire to overclock.
  • A Macintosh IIsi, which runs A/UX 3.0, I literally waited years for an opportunity to get this working.

The Classic I mention as being smashed was repaired with what materials I had available to me at the time, mainly metal plate and some bolts and nuts.
I call this the Frankenmac, since it was repaired and brought back to life with some case parts from another mac and other things.

Notice the screen bezel is completely cracked in half,
the back half of the case literally holds the front in by friction alone,
as there are no screws, although I have found this to be sufficient.

My metalworking has never been wonderful.

As you can see, the handle is no longer present since that part was damaged
my ability to work metal was limited enough that making a replacement
was not really an option.

Too Late for Coffee, Too Early for Alcohol

Been having lots of fun working, Helena College is a great place to work, a bit of a hike for me but otherwise it is good.

Did a one to one laptop night for parents who wanted a little more info on their student’s laptops, I was there with my co-workers to answer any technical questions and provide advice, got to handle a few myself and did quite well.

I’ve been listening to a lot of NOFX lately, enough that sometimes I’ll start humming the tune of one of their sillier songs while doing whatever I’m doing.
I’m quite fond of “I Heard They Suck” and “They’ve Actually Gotten Worse”, both are live albums.

Got into doing nerf blaster stuff lately, I’ve brought a few blasters already and naturally, I’ve modded them for better performance/awesomeness.

I guess I’m just having a good time lately.

New Macbook

Got my new macbook pro yesterday, ran software update and did a migration over firewire 800, seems to be pretty fast.
I’d love to be able to make use of the thunderbolt port, but there’s no peripherals for it yet.

iPhone 4

It has the three gee and the wye fyes.
And now I have one too.
I’ve been taking HDR photos with the camera, SHIT WAS SO CASH.

Tomtom doesn’t suck down battery anymore, screen is sharp and clear, just awesome.
